FIGG, Christian
Christian Figg was born at Hockley, Essex in 1968, son of William C. Figg and his wife Edith W. née Rigg, who married at Epping, Essex in 1953. Christian commenced painting at an early age, developing a personal visual language from his relationship with the Suffolk coast between the rivers Alde and Blyth where he lives and has a studio at Cross Street, Leiston, Suffolk. A contemporary artist, painting large graphically striking images, simplified in form and colour, retaining enough to make them recognisable of the Suffolk coast. The themes running through his work are the remnants of the Sole Bay fishing industry, the crumbling cliffs of Dunwich and the sweep of the desolate shingle beach stretching away and the big brooding block shapes of Sizewell nuclear power station. An associate member of Suffolk Open Studios from Leiston and Old Jet Arts Centre and has exhibited at Beecroft Art Gallery, Westcliff-on-Sea; Blackthorpe Barn, Rougham, Suffolk; Access All Areas Arts Event Gallery 3, Ipswich Town Hall Gallery and Waterfront Gallery of the University Campus Suffolk, Ipswich.
