ASHLEY, Michael
Michael J. Ashley worked for two years in the design and display studio at the Dickens & Jones store in London, before training at the Hornsey College of Art for four years, where he specialised in painting and lithography and went on to teach art for many years. As Mike Ashley, most of his subject matter is found in Britain’s landscape and his subjects are often viewed from a distinct perspective and invite thoughtful interpretation and reflective interaction. His work has its origins in daily walks, seeing the complexity of winter twigs and dried stems, with their subtle colours in sunlight, the effects of hoar frosts and the suggestions of landscapes glimpsed beyond. He married in the Sudbury district of Suffolk in 1999, Helen R. Ripley and works from his studio at Tye Fields, Straight Road, Battisford, Stowmarket, Suffolk. Mike has exhibited at Group 49 & Rising, Wingfield Barns, Suffolk; Blackthorpe Barn, Rougham, Suffolk and the Assembly House Norwich and elsewhere.
