Arabella Shand

Arabella Frances Loudon-Shand was born in London in 1963, daughter of Keith Nigel Loudon-Shand (October 1927-5 May 2005), a tea broker, and his wife Geraldine Carol Evelyn née Francis (born 1933), who married at Westminster, London in 1959. Arabella married at Colchester, Essex in 1991, Ian Donald Herries Gibbs (born July 1956), a tea broker, but continued to paint as Arabella Shand. She studied at Colchester Institute 1983-1984 and at Kingston Polytechnic and at City and Guilds of London Art School 1986-1988. Using oils, she employs a delightful spectrum of seductive gentle colours, such as soft pinks, olive green, pale blues and more, with engaging compositions to lead the eye around the painting. Her main inspiration starts with domestic interiors and family life, and it is the way Arabella manages to put all these aspects together in a sensitive and original way, which makes this artist’s work stand out. Her exhibitions include Decorative Arts, London; Bonhams Contemporary Decorative Arts, London; Seven Dials Gallery, London; Lavenham Contemporary Art Gallery, Suffolk; Clarendon Galleries, London; Cobbold & Judd Fine Art at Hintlesham Hall, Ipswich and The Platform Gallery, Mistley, Essex. She had her studio at Stoke-by-Nayland, Suffolk but now lives in Carmarthenshire, Wales.
