COUGHLAN, Shirley Lyall

Shirley Lyall Coughlan, was born on 26 February 1932. As Shirley Lyall Moody, she married at Ipswich in 1974, Patrick James Coughlan (7 November 1926-29 March 2005) and paints under the name of Shirley Coughlan. Educated at Colchester County High School for Girls and studied at Colchester School of Art 1949-1951 and at London University, Institute of Education 1953-1954 and studied under John O'connor, Blair Hughes-stanton and Carel Weight (1908-1997), gaining a National Diploma in Design in 1953 and an Art Teachers' Certificate the following year. Her work consists of printmaking, drawing, painting, ceramics, textiles and collages and she has exhibited at Young Contemporaries; Laing; Eastern Open, Kings Lynn; Gainsborough House, Sudbury; and elsewhere. She exhibited at the Ipswich Art Society from 26 Warrington Road, Ipswich in 1997 'Variations'. She signs her work with initials 'SLC'.
