THEOBALD, Hazel
As Hazel A. Challis, she was born at Brentwood, Essex in 1948, daughter of Eric William Challis (28 February 1920-20 January 2011), an electrical engineer, and his wife Gladys Jean née Anderson (13 June 1920-1993), who married at Brentwood in 1945. Hazel trained at Southend School of Art and married at Southend in 1969, artist Colin Theobald and paints under the name of Hazel Theobald. A painter working in charcoal, pure pastel, mixed media, and acrylic. She is particularly fond of the East Anglian coast and enjoys skies and the way light changes on varied subjects and is inspired by her surroundings in Dedham Vale which has inspired many artists. She also visits Derbyshire and the Lake District to develop paintings of these beautiful regions. A Friend at the Ipswich Art Society and exhibited from Wheatlands, Holton Wood Road, Stratford St Mary, Suffolk in 2006, two pastels 'Wheatlands Woodland' and 'Irises'. She has also exhibited at Haste Gallery, Ipswich; Quay Theatre Gallery, Sudbury; Digby Gallery, Colchester; Beecroft Art Gallery, Southend and Shakespeare House Gallery, Dedham.
