WOOTTON, Mike

John Michael Ridley Wootton was born at Wharfedale, Yorkshire in 1936, eldest son of George Ridley Wootton (12 June 1899-30 April 1957) and his wife Lilian Elsie née Glasspool (1908-4 July 1996), who married at Brunswick Methodist Church, Leeds on 9 September 1933. Michael married in the Gipping district of Suffolk in 1990, Wendy M. Robinson. Mike Wootton commenced his painting career on his retirement, attending a Marine Drawing and Watercolour course in 1993 tutored by Michael Norman, at Suffolk College Summer School. He has since attended various watercolour courses tutored by James Fletcher-Watson (1913-2004), Paul Banning (born 1934) and Anthony Osler at Dedham Hall in Essex. Mike paints in the traditional pure watercolour style, influenced by James Fletcher-Watson (1913-2004) and Leonard Squirrell, with land and seascapes and buildings as his preferred subjects. A member of the Society of East Anglian Watercolourists and has exhibited both solo and jointly at various venues including the Ipswich Art Society and the Orwell Art Club annual exhibitions, the Haste Gallery and in Ipswich at the Ancient House Gallery, Ipswich; the Ipswich School, Ipswich Sports Club also at the Felixstowe Golf Club. He lives at Mill Cottage, Mill Lane, Great Blakenham, Ipswich.
