ABBOTT, Charles Rowland
Charles Rowland Abbott was born at Ipswich on 13 November 1938, son of Brian Abbott (3 August 1919-15 January 2002), a butcher, and his wife Florence Alice née Nurse (2 January 1919-22 January 2004), who married at Halesworth, Suffolk in 1938 and in 1939 were living at 25 Rectory Street, Halesworth. Charles was educated at Bungay Grammar School and completed his two years National Service in the Royal Air Force before studying at Borough Road Training College for teacher training. A self-taught artist although he completed a subsidiary Art Course under the tuition of Albert Isaac (1923-2006). On leaving College he taught for three years at a Comprehensive School at Hinchley Wood before moving to Alderman Woodrow School, later re-named Kirkley High School, at Lowestoft where he taught English, retiring in 1998. In 1989 he joined the Lowestoft Art Group in which he held various post from a committee member to President. He paints in watercolour although he has dabbled with pastels and some mixed media, and his favourite subjects are flowers, people, water, boats, and landscapes. He was also a member of the Oulton Broad Art Circle.
