Cathie A. Shuttleworth was born at Stoke Ash, Eye, Suffolk in 1963, daughter of Vernon Robert Shuttleworth (27 December 1917-7 October 2003) and his wife Ruth Luya Shuttleworth, née Cunningham, who married at Epping, Essex in 1951, she is a sister to Ruth Shuttleworth. Cathie studied Art & Design at Ipswich School of Art and, specialising in calligraphy and heraldry, at Reigate School of Art, graduating with a first class High National Diploma in 1985. Since 1985, Cathie has worked as a freelance artist for a variety of top-class clients with her work highly acclaimed and her designs are in much demand. She was a member of the Ipswich Art Club from Hill Farm, Stoke Ash, Eye, Suffolk and exhibited in 1985, four paintings 'The Fly and the Bumble Bee', 'Ali Baba and the Forty Thieves', 'The Owl and the Pussy Cat' and 'The Goose that lay the Golden Egg'. Cathie's notable heraldry designs include the coat of arms for HRH Prince Andrew, Duke of York. A well-established artist and book illustrator and her love of illustrations is evident in the wide range of children's books but more recently Cathie has expressed her creativity in the new art form of paper sculpture, her most dynamic works of art to date. Her paper sculptures are highly popular, both as works of art as well as being a basis for more interesting and intriguing book illustrations. Cathie has taught art and design in Surrey, Essex and in Cambridgeshire and has exhibited her work in galleries throughout the U.K. She married at Northampton in 1999, Hugh S. Shrive (born 1960) and they now live in Kettering, Northamptonshire.
