PONSONBY, Kate
As Hon. Catherine Victoria Ponsonby, she was born in the Deben district of Suffolk on 21 July 1944, youngest child of Matthew Henry Hubert Ponsonby (28 July 1904-29 April 1976), a poultry farmer, who from 1946 was the 2nd Baron Ponsonby of Shulbrede, and his wife Hon. Elizabeth Mary née Bigham (17 April 1905-21 March 1985), daughter of Charles Clive Bigham, 2nd Viscount Mersey, who married at St Peter's, Eaton Square, London on 5 December 1929 and in 1939 were living at The Red House, Wantisden, Suffolk. Known as Kate, she studied at Guildford School of Art, Goldsmiths College, Chelsea School of Art and at Atelier 17, in Paris. A printmaker working mostly from landscape and her exhibitions included Prints '68, Artists International Association and London Artists at Shrewsbury School 1968. She married in 1972, Ian McDonald Affleck Russell and had daughters, Hariet Mary Russell, born at Hampstead in 1977 and Joanna Elizabeth Russell, born in Surrey in 1979.
