PERRY, Alex

Alexandra Jane Perry was born in Colchester, Essex in 1970, daughter of Stanley G. Perry and his wife Valerie B. née Turner, who married at Halstead, Essex in 1969. Alex had an educational background in costume, fashion, and textiles, gaining a BTEC from University Campus Suffolk, Ipswich 1996-1998, and a B.A. (hons) degree in Textiles from Norfolk School of Art and Design, Norwich 1998-2001, in which year she won the New Designers, Future of Design Award for Machine Embroidery. In 2002 Alex, as she is known, was awarded the Embroiderers Guild Bursary Scholarship and the Charles Henry Foyle Award for Stitched Textiles. She has an extensive range of professional experience in organising art workshops and curating textiles and in 2002 ran Summer Workshops at the Manor House Museum at Bury St Edmund's, Suffolk. Keeper of Costume in the Manor House Museum 2002-2006 and coordinated the costume and textile workshop for the Last Dance Project, a community arts programme funded by the Heritage Lottery Fund and worked at the Wolsey Art Gallery in Ipswich. Alex has taken part in numerous individual and collective exhibitions, including the Royal West of England Academy, Bristol; Hub Sleaford, Navigation Wharf, Carre Street, Sleaford; Williamson Art Gallery & Museum, Slatey Road, Oxton, Birkenhead; North House Gallery, Manningtree; the Red Dot Gallery-Ipswich and the Wolsey Art Gallery both in Ipswich and has also exhibited at the Victoria & Albert Museum, London; Alexandra Palace, London; Mall Galleries, London. She lived at High Street, Manningtree in Essex.
