MARSDEN, Diana
As Diana Beardsworth, she was born at Preston, Lancashire in 1943, daughter of Richard Leslie Beardsworth (12 August 1916-20 October 1978) and his wife Zelma née Barrow (3 April 1917-17 December 1981), who married at Chorley, Lancashire in 1941. Diana studied at the Harris School of Art, Preston 1959-1963 and later gained a B.A. in Art History with the Open University in 2000. She married at Amounderness, Lancashire in 1964, John B. Marsden and paints under the name of Diana Marsden. In 1967 they moved to Mere Cottage, Eastbridge, Leiston, Suffolk and she commenced painting the Suffolk landscape, where she met her friend and mentor Mary Potter. A painter of landscapes, seascapes and still life in oil, showing interest in light and colours of East Anglia. A founder member and exhibitor at the Suffolk Group of Artists and her first solo exhibition was at Gallery 44, Aldeburgh in 1975 which was followed by a show at John Russell Gallery, Ipswich 1994 and many mixed exhibitions including Grape Lane Gallery, York; Royal Parade Gallery, Blackheath; Strand Gallery, Aldeburgh and Thompson's Gallery, Aldeburgh and elsewhere.
