HAMILTON, Jane
Jane Trevelyan Hamilton was born at Grundisburgh, Suffolk in 1950, daughter of marine painter John Alan Hamilton (13 June 1919-30 December 1993) and his wife Betty Gwendolen Silvey née Roberts (21 July 1920-4 November 2009), who married at Westminster, London in 1946. Jane spent the first few years of her life in West Africa and on completing her schooling, she travelled to Italy where she worked and studied for several months before attending Falmouth School of Art 1968, City and Guilds of London Art School 1970, under James Butler (born 1931), and part-time at Sir John Cass School of Art in 1979. After art school she trained as a nurse but began sculpting and teaching life drawing at both North Oxfordshire School of Art and at Nuneaton School of Art. A member of the Society of Portrait Sculptors and during 1979-2003 had over thirty-five solo or group exhibitions including at the Royal Academy Summer Exhibition and the Chelsea Art Society from 1989. Jane had solo exhibitions at Foxhall Gallery, Washington, D.C. 1980 and Emscote Lawn, Warwick in 1996. She married artist Simon Allison (born 1955) and lives at Appletree Lane, Cropredy, Banbury, Oxfordshire.
