ALDERTON, Winifred Minnie

1901 - 1979

As Winifred Minnie Montgomery, she was born at Hackney, London on 12 July 1901, second daughter of the two children of William John Montgomery (1868-1918), a printer, and his wife Lillie Selina née Grant (4 June 1869-1951), who married at Hackney in 1892. In 1911, Winifred was a 9-year-old, living at The Chase, Thundersley, Essex with her parents, 42-year-old William and 41-year-old Lillie with a sibling sister, 15-year-old Annie Georgina and in 1921 Winifred, now a school teacher was still living at The Chase, Thundersley with her widowed mother Lillie and two boarders. Winifred married at Rochford, Essex on 12 June 1926, Frank William Alderton (25 June 1897-31 December 1984) and painted under the name of Mrs. Winifred Alderton. In 1939 she was living at 35 St Michael's Road, Hoddesdon, Hertfordshire with her widowed mother Lillie. A member and exhibitor at the Norfolk & Norwich Art Circle 1961-1966 from Lowestoft, Suffolk. Winifred Minnie Alderton lived at 24 Charles Miller Court, Cross Road, Leiston, Suffolk where she died on 5 February 1979.
