As Geraldine Blair Polkinghorn she was born on 31 March 1949, daughter of John Bench Polkinghorn (22 June 1915-), a traffic official, and his wife Jean Roy née Eckford (31 December 1924-), who married at Tsingtao, China 1946-1948 and in 1954 were living at The Cottage, Red Towers, Melton, Suffolk. Gerry studied at Ipswich School of Art and in theatre design at Wimbledon School of Art and worked for many years in mainstream theatre, film, and ballet, designing and making costumes, sets and props. Geraldine married in 1974, David Malcolm Vere Spiller and they had two children, Zoe Alice and Stephen David, both born in London. They were members of Suffolk Open Studios, from Parkside, Hackney Road, Melton, Woodbridge, Suffolk from where she works with the Asylum Studios Life-drawing Group. In addition to her drawing and painting she makes three-dimensional work in wire and mixed media which explores the use of lighting shadow and scale. In 2020, Geraldine and her husband exhibited their paintings at Hackney Road Studios, Grundisburgh House Gallery, Artspace Woodbridge and elsewhere.
