OWEN, George Elmslie

1899 - 1964

George Elmslie Owen, was born at 1 Dumbarton Road, Stirlingshire, Scotland on 13 December 1899, son of George Ellis Owen (born 23 August 1862), a cycle manufacturer, and his wife Catherine née Banks. Educated at Stirling High School and studied at the University of Edinburgh, a student of science 1918-1919, and an officer cadet at George Watson's College from 1915 being promoted a lieutenant in April 1919. A member of the Stirling and Fine Art Association in 1932 and he exhibited at the Ipswich Art Society in 1933, from 33 Warwick Square, London S.W. an oil 'Exotic Fish'. A teacher at Westminster School of Art and at Brighton School of Art and married at Chelsea, London in 1935 Margaret Fell. In 1939, a married teacher at an art school, living at 28 Cornwall Gardens, Brighton, Sussex. He died at St Ronan, The Crescent, Steyning, Sussex on 13 June 1964, aged 66 and his wife Margaret Fell Owen, who was born on 12 October 1909, died at Rectory House Nursing Home, West Street, Sompting, West Sussex on 4 April 1995.
