FRASER-STEELE, Moira

As Moira Jayne Hammond, she was born at Braintree, Essex in 1947, daughter of Sidney Alfred Richard Hammond (5 October 1908-1995), a rubber compounder, and his wife Joyce Eleanor née Watson (20 May 1913-1994), who married at Eton in 1938, and in 1939 were living at Windsor Road, Eton. Moira married at Braintree in 1997, Graeme John Fraser-Steele and paints under the name of Moira Fraser-Steele. Moira is a graduate of the Royal College of Art, being tutored by Sir Christopher Frayling (born 1946) and by Charles Saumarez-Smith (born 1954) and took a master's degree in the History of Art and Design. Her career has embraced the design world, being appointed a Director of The Design Council, a position she held for over seven years. On her retirement Moira took up painting, the focus of her work is on graphics, with a particular interest in shape and form. In 2013, she received the 'President's Award' from the Royal Watercolour Society in London and in 2017 the Tyndall Award. Moira is a member of the Suffolk Art Society and the Society of East Anglian Watercolourists and has exhibited at Gallery 47, Sudbury; The Cut, Halesworth; The Quay, Sudbury, all in Suffolk, and at Wymondham Art Centre in Norfolk and the Aubrey Gallery, Great Dunmow, Essex, also exhibited at the 'Visions of Sudbury' show in 2013 a watercolour 'Box Valley'.
