MILBURN, Sophie
As Sophie Margot Bowden, she was born at Wesr Queen's Road, Cambridge in 1945, daughter of Frank Philip Bowden (1903-3 September 1968) and his wife Margot née Hutchison (5 November 1911-1996), who married at St Michael, Chester Square, London on 12 December 1931. Sophia studied ceramics at Camberwell School of Arts & Crafts under Lucie Rie (1902-1995). She married at Cambridge in 1968 Edward Barnaby Pollington Milburn, an architect, and worked as Sophie Milburn. They lived in Sibton, Suffolk for some 40 years, raising two daughters Chloe and Kate, before moving to Halesworth in 2011. In 1987 Sophia was one of the ten Suffolk Crafts Society members who set up Craftco in Southwold. Sophie Milburn died on 3 July 2015.
