DIPPLE, Alex
Alexandra Margaret Dipple was born in London in 1967. Alex, as she is known, studied Alternative Practice, later titled Fine Art Critical Practice, which was the first Conceptual Fine Art Media degree in the UK, at Brighton Polytechnic in the 1980s and in 2016, she took her master's with distinction in Fine Art from Central Saint Martins University of the Arts. Her practice makes a circular game of social media when images of majolica plates, Picasso ceramics or Charles Ray sculptures are shared one minute, and become paintings the next. Art historical genres and stylistics are treated like signs to deploy and her more recent focus is a contemporary take on cast drawing. A conceptual painter, decorative and unusual works which often blurs the lines between traditional and contemporary art, creating decorative and thought-provoking pieces that invite viewers to reconsider familiar themes and in 2025 saw her selected for the Royal Watercolour Society open exhibition. A member of Suffolk Open Studios from her studio at Miles Ward Court, Chediston Street, Halesworth.
