Charlotte Johnstone

Charlotte Johnstone was born in England and comes from a family of distinguished and celebrated artists, illustrators and set designers, her grandmother is Doris Clare Zinkeisen. Charlotte studied Fine Art at the Slade School of Fine Art in London. Having lived in India for some ten years she now lives and works back in Suffolk, close to her family’s artistic roots. Charlotte is a highly accomplished portrait painter, equally skilful at painting individuals and family groups loving the less observed sides of people’s personalities, the sides that haven’t been prepared for an audience. With children, she finds the fleetingness of youth and the inhabitance of the present and with adults, stories behind the eyes working from life and from photographs. Charlotte was Artist in Residence for the Royal Geographical Society’s Shoals of Capricorn Expedition (1997-2001) and is now exploring her love of landscape alongside portraiture.
