​Richard Thomas studied at Brighton and Leicester in the 1970s. Richard started a career in education as an art teacher in secondary schools, progressing to more senior roles to become a headteacher and finally, he became Executive Director of headteacher organisations as well as an Educational Consultant. These demanding roles left little time for painting until he finally retired. Richard originally worked in oils and pastels on figurative works but now; after returning to painting, he works in acrylics and occasionally watercolours, specialising in landscapes. He has lived in Lavenham since 1994.
