BIRKETT, Catherine

1850 - 1942

Catherine Sinclair Birkett was born at Lee Street, Louth, Lincolnshire on 15 September 1850, eldest daughter of Benjamin Birkett (1820-23 March 1888), a attorney's clerk, and his wife Mary Sinclair (1827-1896), eldest daughter of John Sinclair of New York, who married at Thornton le Fen, Lincolnshire on 2 July 1849. In 1871, Benjamin was a solicitor & lawyer at 4 Providence Street, Ipswich with his wife and his two daughters, Catherine and Annie Sinclair Birkett. Catherrine studied at the Ipswich School of Art and in 1869 was awarded a prize from the Royal College of Art at South Kensington. Catherine married at St George the Martur, Bloomsbury, London, Henry Mason Jackaman (July 1840-11 January 1930), a solicitor, and in 1881 they were living at 108 London Road, Ipswich. In 1939 she was living at 51 Henley Road, Ipswich with her two unmarried daughters young Catherine Sinclair (8 August 1876-9 February 1955) and Annie Dorothea (1 May 1878-21 January 1974). Catherine Sinclair Jackaman was of Colne House, Henley Road, Ipswich when she died at Framsden Rectory, Suffolk on 12 August 1942. They also had a son Henry Simon Batley Jackaman (15 September 1879-1932), also a solicitor.
