HARRIES, Rob
Robin John Harries was born in November 1946, known as Rob Harries he studied at Hornsey College of Art 1965-1969 taking a diploma in Art and Design. After working in America, Rob then moved north to join the Great George's Community Arts Project in Liverpool, now known as the 'Black-E', a community arts centre and venue in a former church in the heart of Liverpool's Chinatown. Rob then spent several years in Community Art running 'Harry's Big Balloonz', a children's play project with giant inflatables, when work on the manufacture of some stage inflatables for the Pink Floyd and then known as 'Air Artists' made inflatable props, costumes, and scenery for several top pop bands as well as for television, films and inflatables for circus and promotions. Rob retired from the commercial world and developed an interest in making figurative sculpture in clay. His practice is informed by weekly life sculpture sessions and life drawing with ideas from these sessions have become large slab-built figures in clay, fired to stoneware which are influenced by the figurative sculpture of the Mexican artist Javier Marin (1962-). Rob is a member of Black Dog Arts at Bungay, Suffolk and of Waveney & Blyth Arts from 35 Upper Olland Street, Bungay, Suffolk. Author of 'The Inflatable Book'.
