GINNEL FOTO FEST
The Ginnel Foto Fest was founded in May 2016 by Mike Chen (artist name of Michael Klencher), who came to England in 2002 and lived at 4a Clarkson Street, Ipswich and in the heart of Ipswich is St Matthew's Hall in Clarkson Street and next door is the Ginnel Foto Fest. Mike's university lecturer Geoff Buono of the University of Suffolk introduced Mike to the term ‘Ginnel’ [alleyway] since when Mike has kept his fascination with the word and the space it describes. The photographers of 2016 presented work produced in different techniques including film, alternative process, and digital reflecting on current issues in society and on the migrant crises. The Ginnel Foto Fest reaches out to the community that lives and works around Norwich Road in the west of Ipswich. The last exhibition seems to have been in 2022 but returned as part of Ipswich Art Trail - 13/14 September 2025. A Suffolk artist who exhibited with Ginnell Foto Fest was Amy Marie Gladding.
