CHISWICK SCHOOL OF ART

1881 - 1899

The Chiswick School of Art, sometimes called the Chiswick School of Art and Science, was an art school in Bath Road, Bedford Park, London was formerly opened in November 1881 when it had around 140 pupils. In 1899 it merged into the Acton and Chiswick Polytechnic when a tutor was Leonard Charles Nightingale (1851-1941). In 1928, it became the Chiswick Polytechnic until 1944 and then the West London Institute of Higher Education when a headmaster was Frederick Coulson Davis. Suffolk artists who studied at Chiswick include Dora Burwood, Tennyson Cole and Frederick James Lord.
