TOWNER GALLERY
The Towner Gallery opened in 1923 in Manor Gardens, Eastbourne, an 18th century building. In 2009 they moved to the award-winning purpose-built gallery in Eastbourne’s cultural centre, the Devonshire Quarter. The building is the largest purpose-built gallery in the South-East. The Towner Art Gallery collection is best known for its modern British art, including the largest and most significant body of work by Eric Ravilious (1903–1942), and a growing collection of national and international contemporary art including works by Dineo Seshee Bopape (1981-), Sir John Akomfrah (1957-), Lawrence Abu Hamdan (1985-), Tacita Charlotte Dean (1965-), Anya Gallaccio (1963-), Wolfgang Tillmans (1968-), and most recently Rachel Jones (1991-), Helen Cammock (1970-), Jananne Al-Ani (1966-) and Clare Woods (1972-). Suffolk artists' works include Trevor Allen, Bernard James Davis, Caroline Gold, Frances Hodgkins, Reginald St Clair Marston, and Kathleen Irene Walne. A professional development programme for artists of all levels offers artist residencies, mentoring and opportunities for collaboration and showcasing.
