TOWNER GALLERY
The Towner Gallery in Manor Gardens, Eastbourne, an 18th century building, opened in 1923. In 2009 they moved to an award-winning purpose-built gallery in Eastbourne’s cultural centre, the Devonshire Quarter, the building at Devonshire Park, College Road, Eastbourne is the largest purpose-built gallery in the South-East. The Towner Art Gallery collection is best known for its modern British art, including the largest and most significant body of work by Eric Ravilious (22 July 1903–2 September 1942), and a growing collection of national and international contemporary art including works by Dineo Seshee Bopape (1981-), Sir John Akomfrah (1957-), Lawrence Abu Hamdan (1985-), Tacita Charlotte Dean (1965-), Anya Gallaccio (1963-), Wolfgang Tillmans (1968-), and most recently Rachel Jones (1991-), Helen Cammock (1970-), Jananne Al-Ani (1966-) and Clare Woods (1972-). Suffolk artists' works include Trevor Allen, Bernard James Davis, Caroline Gold, Frances Hodgkins, Reginald St Clair Marston, and Kathleen Irene Walne. A professional development programme for artists of all levels offers artist residencies, mentoring and opportunities for collaboration and showcasing.
