LOGGIA GALLERY
Loggia Gallery and Sculpture Garden opened on 11 July 1972 at 15 Buckingham Gate near to the Palace. Nina Hosali, whose mother, Frances Kate Hosali (1878-1944) had founded the Society for Protection of Animals in North Africa (SPANA) in 1923 with the headquarters at their home at 15 Buckingham Gate and this property was used by the free painters for meetings and storage space and in 1972 the loggia in its gardens was turned into a permanent gallery space, the Loggia Gallery and Sculpture Garden. The Gallery was intended for members of the Free Painters and Sculptors and during its inaugural year, thirty-seven artists had one-person or shared exhibitions. Distinguished members and exhibitors have included Roy Rasmussen (1919-2014), Maurice Jadot (1893-1983), Denis Arthur Bowen (1921-2006), Roy Turner Durrant, Thomas Clifford Holden (1919-2020), Francis Newton Souza (1924-2002), Halima Nalecz (1914-2008), Frank Avray Wilson (1914-2009), Roderic Barrett, Dorothy Trotman Bordass (1905-1992), Nina Hosali (1898-1987), Kathleen Hilda Guthrie (1905-1981), Édouard Léon Théodore Mesens (1903–1971), William Otway McCannell (1883-1969) and John Cecil Stephenson (1889-1965). Other Suffolk artists who exhibited with the Loggia Gallery include Maria Balfour and Peter Wells.
