DOMINY, John Spencer

1831 - 1887

Robert Peter Dominy was born in Yorkshire in 1831, son of Robert Peter Dominy, a seaman, who died at sea on 2 November 1855. In 1866 John Spencer Dominy was drawing master at Great Yarmouth Grammar and Industrial School and as an artist of York, he married at Gorleston with Southtown, Suffolk on 10 April 1871, Mary Ann Elizabeth [Eliza] Costerton (1845-2 May 1905), daughter of John Fisher Costerton (1785-1873), a gentleman of Mutford, Suffolk. Dominy exhibited at the Royal Academy 1865-1874 also at the first exhibition of the renamed Norwich Fine Arts Association at Exhange Street, Norwich in 1868 and made several etchings of cutlery and silver items. John Spencer Dominy, gentleman, late of Gorleston in the County of Suffolk, formerly of the City of York, died at Marazion, Cornwall on 20 April 1887. His will was proved by his widow Eliza Dominy of 4 Woodford Terrace, Southtown, Gorleston.
