CITY OF NORWICH AND EAST ANGLIAN ART UNION
City of Norwich and East Anglian Art Union (in connection with the Norfolk and Norwich Fine Arts' Association). In 1856 Claude Lorraine Nursey was secretary and by 1868 it had been renamed the City of Norwich and East Anglian Art Union when they held their first exhibition and the union's final recorded public activity was its third annual prize drawing, which took place on 29 September 1870 still under the direction of honorary secretary Claude Lorraine Nursey. Like many regional Victorian art unions, its lottery-style format likely dissolved shortly thereafter due to shifting public interest, financial unsustainability, or the strict legal regulations imposed by the Art Unions Act of 1846. Suffolk artists who exhibited with the City of Norwich and East Anglian Art Union include John Spencer Dominy and Thomas Hales.
