TULL, Phyllis Mary
As Phyllis Mary Back, she was born at Oulton Broad, Suffolk on 13 June 1886, eldest surviving daughter of Philip Edward Back (14 January 1860-1 July 1930) of Mancroft Towers, Oulton Broad, Suffolk and his wife Ellen Grace née Shales (1 January 1859-), who married at Great Yarmouth 4 October 1881. Phyllis studied at Lowestoft Technical School 1902-1903 and after her marriage and children at Heatherley's School of Fine Art in 1933. She married at St Michael's Church, Oulton Broad, Suffolk on 4 November 1911, Frank Stuart Salsbury Tull (1884-6 December 1955), a chartered accountant, from when she painted as Phyllis Mary Tull. In 1921 they were living at 1 College Gardens, Camberwell, London, 36-year-old Frank and 35-year-old Phyllis with their four children, John Edward Grenville 8, born in Surrey, Thomas Stuart 6 and Mary Doris 5, born in Norfolk and Helen Bridges Buclaire 3, born at Oulton Broad and they retained one indoor servant. Phyllis Tull exhibited her work in East Anglia. Phyllis Mary Tull died at 2 The Grove, Mount Street, Diss, Norfolk on 2 August 1967.
