Spadge Hopkins

Spadge Hopkins was born in March 1966. His copper sculptures are variously figurative and explore two of the binaries of sculpture; volume and void; whilst playing with the use of light and shadow. Many of Spadge’s pieces are unique and many of his copper sculptures have been hand made in a limited batch of five. The process of laser cutting, which is all done by Spadge himself except for the actual machine work, lends itself to mass-production. However, all Spadge’s designs are limited to a run of ten and they are now marked as ev, 'edition variee', */10 as well as being signed. A member of Suffolk Open Studios from Manor Farm, Brick Lane, Framlingham, Suffolk. His first mainstream public exhibition was in Ipswich in 2015, but he has been practicing and studying autodidactically, producing varied work for colleagues, friends, and family since the 1980s. He exhibits in Suffolk at Pond Gallery at Snape Maltings; Craftco, Southwold; Ferini Art Gallery, Pakefield; Earsham Hall Art Gallery, Bungay, Craft House Woodbridge and with Dennington Arts or artworks can be purchased directly from the artist.
