SEBAG-MONTEFIORE, Victoria
Victoria Alice Sebag-Montefiore is the daughter of Nathaniel Charles Sebag-Montefiore (14 December 1938-12 January 2018) and his wife Annabel Victoria née Gosling who married at Chelsea on 25 October 1965. Victoria studied at the Byam Shaw School of Art 1988-1989 and at the Slade School of Fine Art 1989-1993 for her B.A. degree and at has been painting since her late teens. In the early part of her career, she painted abstract paintings inspired by the many skyscrapers going up in Canary Wharf in London. Victoria paints the beauty of the natural world, producing oil paintings saturated in colour and teeming with life. Her love of the work of both Japanese print artists of the early 19th century and the Abstract Expressionists of the 20th century informs her gestural marks, surfaces, and use of colour. In 2012, together with her husband James Matthew William Alexander and two children, she moved to Suffolk and renovated their farmhouse in Worlingworth and is inspired by the countryside and beaches of her Suffolk home, finding inspiration in her from plants and trees to butterflies and open skies. Victoria, who is now based at Aldeburgh in Suffolk, has exhibited widely including solo shows in London at Will's Art Warehouse; Gallery 27; The Gallery, 340 Kings Road, London and locally at Snape Maltings Galleries with mixed shows at Deene Park, Northamptonshire; Battersea Park, London; Mall Galleries, London; Thompson's Gallery, Aldeburgh and elsewhere.
