BAYLEY, James Rogers
James Rogers Bayley was born at Woodbridge, Suffolk on 17 June 1825 and baptised at Stoke Green Baptist Chapel, Ipswich on the same day, son of William Bayley and his wife Mary née Rogers. In 1861, an unmarried shipbuilder & owner, living on his own account at 47 Key Street, Ipswich. He married at Turret Green Chapel, Ipswich on 15 January 1863, Catherine Ridley, daughter of Frederick Ridley, currier, Catherine died on 27 January 1870, aged 31, and in 1871, a widower with three children Florence Kate, Ada Mary 4, and Edith 3, with a governess, cook, page and nursemaid. On 22 December 1871, he left the partnership of William Bayley & Sons, shipbuilders & shipowners, when the business was carried on by William Bayley when James carried on as a shipowner on his own account. In 1881 James was living at Oakland House, 21 Broughton Road, Ipswich and in the same year exhibited ‘Study of Trees’ at the Ipswich Fine Art Club. James Rogers Bayley died at 21 Broughton Road, Ipswich on 29 July 1915, aged 90, and was buried in Ipswich Cemetery.
