STEWART, Andrea
Andrea Stewart was born in West Sussex in December 1963, spending her early years in Africa, South America and in the Middle East. Andrea studied design and communication at Ravensbourne University in London College then took her master's at St Martin's Central School of Art, London, specialising in educational material for wildlife conservation. After graduation she worked as a designer in London and in the late 1980s setting up her design agency. After some 15 years, the agency was sold when Andrea, with her husband Andrew and son, settled in Suffolk setting up and running an award-winning self-catering cottage, a home and garden shop. Andrea had painted up until the age of 17 but after a 37-year gap again returned to her first loves painting and wildlife. A self-taught artist who works in acrylic on stretched canvas her paintings develop and evolve through the many layers of paint added to create depth and dimension, with extensive use of underpainting and glazes. She works from her studio near Stowmarket in Suffolk and exhibits at Art in East Anglia; Aldeburgh Contemporary Arts and elsewhere.
