WILDE, Simon
Simon Wilde was born in 1966 and grew up in Colchester, Essex. In the 1980s he worked for several art galleries in the U.S.A. and was an assistant to the artist Rammellzee (c1961-27 June 2010) and in the 1980s Simon started to paint in a back room of the Barbara Braathen Gallery in New York. He later studied at the New York Studio School and Falmouth College of Art and later lived and worked in Cornwall before moving back to East Anglia in 2018. In Wilde’s work layers of paint are built up and scratched back creating a visual archaeology of colour and form which acts as a gateway to apparition. Mystical figures and magical landscapes emerge from the paint encouraging a discourse with the viewer. Simon is a member of Easterly Artists and has shown at the Grapevine Contemporary, Norfolk; The Art Gallery, Lowestoft and the Ferini Art Gallery, Pakefield, Lowestoft and has exhibited in New York, London, Edinburgh, Birmingham, Manchester, Cornwall, Devon, Norfolk, and Suffolk.
