ARCHER, Joseph Clarke
Joseph Clarke Archer was born at Semer, Suffolk in 1789 and baptised at St Mary's Church, Kersey, Suffolk on 7 January 1790, son of Joseph Archer and his wife Elizabeth née Clarke. Young Joseph married at Rushmere Church, Ipswich on 5 September 1844, Martha Cross (1814-14 March 1912) of Rushmere and in 1851 a 62-year-old farmer, living at Semer Lodge, Semer with his 36-year-old wife Martha, who was born at Holbrook, Suffolk and their three children Elizabeth Martha 3, George Frewin 2 and newly born Sarah Ann, they had another two sons, namesake Joseph Clarke Archer (1846-1862) and unnamed born 19 April 1853. As J. C. Archer he exhibited at the Suffolk Fine Arts Association in 1850 a watercolour 'The Holm-Wood, Surrey'. Joseph Clarke Archer died at Semer Lodge on 21 July 1857, aged 68, and buried at Semer on 25 July 1857.
