ARCHER, Joseph Clarke

1789 - 1857

Joseph Clarke Archer, was born at Semer, Suffolk in 1789 and baptised at St Mary's Church, Kersey, Suffolk on 7 January 1790, son of Joseph Archer and his wife Elizabeth née Clarke. He married at Rushmere Church, Woodbridge, Suffolk on 5 September 1845, Martha Cross of Rushmere and in 1851 a 62 year old farmer, living at Semer Lodge, Semer with his 36 year old wife Martha, who was born at Holbrook, Suffolk and their three children Elizabeth Martha 3, George Frewin 2 and newly born Sarah Ann, they had another two sons, namesake Joseph Clarke Archer (1846-1862) and unnamed born 19 April 1853. As J. C. Archer he exhibited at the Suffolk Fine Art Association in 1850 a watercolour 'The Holm-Wood, Surrey'. He died at Semer Lodge on 21 July 1857, aged 68, and buried at Semer on 25 July 1857.
