MILNES, Sibyl
Sibyl Marjorie Milnes was born at Gislingham, Suffolk on 13 April 1901, daughter of Dr John George Milnes (1860-16 March 1932), M.R.C.S., L.R.C.P., and his wife Jessie Victoria née Baird (24 May 1866-31 January 1946), who was born in New Brunswick, Canada and married at East Ashford, Kent in 1898. In 1911, Sibyl was a 9-year-old boarder at 62 High Street, Hampton Hill Middlesex, the home of the Clement family. Sibyl was educated at Derby High School and studied at Derby School of Art, Regent Street Polytechnic, London, and Clapham School of Art. A painter in oil and watercolour she exhibited at 'Daily Express' young artists in 1927, the New Irish Salon Exhibition, the Royal Academy and the the Paris Salon in 1928. In 1939 an artist and writer living at 59 Stoneleigh New Street, Easton, Dorset. Sibyl Marjorie Milnes died at 40 Gauden Road, London S.W.4, on the 16 August 1973, she was unmarried. She signed her work 'Sibyl Milnes'.
Note: her birth was registered in 2 quarter 1901 Hartismere 4a 929 and her death record notes the date of her birth as 13-4-1901 but Sybil incorrectly gave her year of birth as 1902.
