JOHNSON, William Francis Fisher Sanders

William Francis Fisher Sanders Johnson was born at Marylebone, London on 23 August 1891 and baptised at St Peter, Eaton Square, Pimlico on 18 December 1893, son of William Francis Fisher Sanders Johnson and Alice Mary Johnson. Young William was educated at St Marylebone Grammar School and studied at Goldsmiths College and at St Martin's School of Art. He married at Marylebone, London in 1915, Mabel Winifred Christina Bishop (25 December 1891-17 January 1977) and he served in the Royal Navy during the First World War. In 1921 a teacher of art for London County Council living at 36 Leicester Road, East Finchley, Middlesex with his 29-year-old wife and their two children Winifred Pamela 2, and newly born David Alan. An oil and watercolour artist he exhibited at Crystal Palace; Worthing Museum and Art Gallery, Union Place, Worthing and elsewhere. He later lived at Dallinghoo, near Woodbridge in Suffolk but in 1939 he was lodging at 101 Church Row, Wigginton, Berkhamsted when his wife and three children were at their home at 119 Ashurst Road, Friern Barnet, Middlesex. They retired to Taunton, Somerset where William Francis Fisher Sanders Johnson died in 1967. He signed his works 'W. F. Johnson' with the 'F' superimposed on the 'W'.
