LE MARE, John Sutton
John Sutton Le Mare was born at Ipswich on 15 April 1926, eldest son of Reginald Le Mare (29 November 1891-29 February 1968), who worked for biscuit manufacturers Huntley & Palmers, and his wife Winifred Eileen née Sutton (6 June 1900-29 February 1972). John studied at Chelsea School of Art being taught by sculptor Sir Henry Moore and on qualifying as an art teacher returned to Ipswich and was art teacher at Ipswich School. John also played football for Colchester United and Ipswich Town Football Clubs. During the Second World War he served in the Royal Marines serving in France and in Germany and on leaving the forces in 1947 returned to Ipswich as a sports master. He married at Ipswich on 7 August 1954, Rosemary Eileen Wilson (1932-9 September 2015), matron at Ipswich School and they had five children. A Fellow of the Royal Society of Arts from 1964, living at 27 Henley Road, Ipswich. John Sutton Le Mare died at Bucklesham Grange Nursing Home, Ipswich on 12 January 2018, aged 91.
