PRETTY, Dawn
Dawn Pretty was born in Zimbabwe in the 60s, from a family which included John Alexander Gilfillan (1793-1863), the acclaimed Scottish painter, known for his portrait of the wife of Robert Burns. Dawn married Christopher John Pretty, a son of marine artist John Robert Pretty and they had three sons and a daughter. Dawn received no formal art training, initially embarking on a career in music and represented England in sport and, as a teenager, travelled in Europe and America, using her hobby of painting and drawing to help fund herself. Working in oil, watercolour, pencil, considering the beauty of light and colour with portraits being Dawn’s speciality and she now runs classes in watercolour, oil and acrylic from her studio at the The Cut Halesworth. Dawn has exhibited her works in various venues and her work is in collections worldwide.
