Claire Fried

As Claire E. Sant she was born in London in 1956, daughter of William Howard Sant (1925-2005) and his wife Audrey E Sant née Lewis. Claire studied at Ipswich School of Art 1973-1974, St Martin's School of Art, London 1975-1977 and obtained her B.A. (hons) degree in Art and Design. A fashion designer in Paris 1977-1991 for Dior, Givenchy, Junko Shimada, Emmanuelle Khan, Sonia Rykiel, and others. In 2012 she took a summer course in Sight-Size Technique in oils at Charles Cecil Studios and in 2016 a one-year diploma in oil painting techniques under Martin Kinnear (1969-) at the Norfolk Painting School and since 2017 the owner and has run Artspace Gallery at 64 Thoroughfare, Woodbridge, Suffolk. She was married to designer Bertrand Fried of Fried Frères and works from her studio at Woodbridge. A member of the Ipswich Art Society, the Aldeburgh Studio Trail and the Colchester Art Society. Claire works in oils on linen or board, in landscapes, portraits and still life and her new work is based on her residency and cultural exchange in Wenzhou, China in Autumn 2019.
