HALL, Kate Felton
As Katherine Mary Hall, she was born at Wakefield, Yorkshire in March 1963, daughter of Ralph D. Hall and his wife Julia M. née Craven, who married at Wakefield in 1961. Kate, as she is known, was educated at Leeds High School for Girls 1969-1974, Hunmanby Hall Boarding School, Yorkshire 1974-1981 and studied typography & graphic communication at Reading University 1981-1985, and then at the School of Communication Arts, now part of University of London, under the tutorship of John Gillard (1933-2000). Kate was employed by Paul Arden (1940-2008) as an Art Director in the Creative Department of Saatchi & Saatchi, Charlotte Street, London 1985-1991 where she worked on television, press, poster and radio campaigns, winning silver Creative Silver and Gold National Association of Broadcasters awards, before moving away from London to Suffolk. Kate married at Leeds in 1989, Roger Howard Felton, and now works under the name of Kate Felton Hall. A freelance designer, before finally moving into the fine art world, working in oils in still-life and portraiture. She is known as the 'root painter' - plants out of their pots or dug from the ground exposing their roots - larger than life fruits, vegetables, and flowers and undertakes portrait commissions usually in profile. Kate, who is a member of the Ipswich Art Society, has lived at Southwold, Walberswick and at Woodbridge, all in Suffolk and exhibits at the Southwold Gallery.
