BURTON, Emily Myra
Emily Myra Burton was born at Ipswich in 1863, daughter of Henry May Burton (22 April 1823-19 March 1879), wholesale grocer, and his wife Mary Bunnell Lewis (6 December 1825-8 February 1912), eldest daughter of William Jones Lewis of Spital Square, London, who married at the Independent Chapel, Richmond, Surrey on 1 September 1857, Emily was a sister to Bunnell Henry Burton. In 1871, Emily was an 8-year-old, living at 6 Burlington Road, Ipswich with her parents, 47-year-old Henry, a sugar & cheese importer, and 45-year-old Mary and five siblings, Bunnell Henry 13, George Lewis 11, Mary Bunnell 9, William Parke 6 and newly born Elizabeth Rosa, all born at Ipswich. Emily was educated at a private school at 2 Effingham Close, Dover, Kent, where she was living in 1881, and studied at the Ipswich School of Science and Art and in 1884 won her certificate for perspective, freehand and model drawing and exhibited a prize-winning watercolour at South Kensington Museum of Art. Emily married at Ipswich on 22 March 1888, Heinrich Odomar Hugo Wiskemann, who later that year, had a receiving order made against him and later a bankrupt paying a dividend in 1929, he was born and died in Hesse, Germany. In 1911, Emily was a married lady with three surviving of four, children, living back in Ipswich with her widowed mother at 3 Burlington Road Ipswich. In 1914 they were living at Stonebridge Park, London when her husband was interred as an enemy alien. Emily Myra Wiskemann died at Brackenhurst, Higher Drive, Purley, Surrey on 22 April 1918 and was buried in Ipswich Cemetery. Their youngest daughter was journalist Elizabeth Meta Wiskemann (13 August 1899–5 July 1971).
