PHILLIPPS, Mary Lisle March

Mary Lisle March-Phillipps, was born in the East Indies about 1859, daughter of Alfred Lisle March Phillips (1825-3 September 1887), Bengal civil servant, and his second wife Mary Anna née Harrington, who married at Agra, West Bengal, India on 14 April 1857, his first wife was Alicia Frances née Bushby, who married at Calcutta, India on 9 November 1848. In 1871, a 12 year old, living at Hitcham Rectory, Hitcham, Suffolk, the home of her cousin, 50 year old widower Alexander Ronald Grant, rector of Hitcham, and his family. By 1881 she was a 22 year old, living at Hitcham Hall, Suffolk with her unmarried aunt, 57 year old Florence March Phillips, also in the household was Mary's father 56 year old Alfred. As Miss March Phillips of Hitcham, she exhibited at the Bury St Edmund's and West Suffolk Fine Art Society in 1882. In 1891, still living with her aunt at Hitcham Hall. Mary married at Greenwich, Middlesex in 1898, John Charles Scott. She died at The Old House, Hitcham, Suffolk on 25 March 1931, aged 72. Her name is variously Phillipps and Phillips.
