OVERTON, Dorothea Gertrude
Dorothea Gertrude Overton was born at Lowestoft, Suffolk on 24 December 1909, daughter of Edmund Clark Overton (1871-18 May 1939), a traveller in chemical manure, and his wife Florence Gertrude née Brooks (1868-1930), who married in the Samford district of Suffolk in 1901. In 1911, Dorothea was living at 413 London Road South, Lowestoft with her parents, 40-year-old Edmund and 42-year Florence, and sibling brother, 7-year-old John. Dorothea exhibited from 408 London Road, Lowestoft at the Walker Art Gallery between 1927 and 1928, and exhibited at the Wertheim Gallery, Burlington Gardens, London 1937 several patterns applied to silk, velvet, and linen. She married at St Pancras, London in 1937, Claude Reginald Lyons (18 July 1908-7 June 1989) and in 1939 Dorothea was a married part-time art teacher, living at 25 Ellington Court, Southgate, Middlesex. In 1945 her husband changed his surname by deed poll to Lyon when living at 52 Holden Road, North Finchley, London. She was a member and exhibitor at the Oulton Broad Art Circle. As Dorothea Gertrude Lyons she died at Pine Heath Hospital, Bodham, near Holt, Norfolk on 15 January 1978.
