BEALES, Harriett
Harriett Elizabeth P. Beales was born at Wamill Hall, Mildenhall, Suffolk in 1868, only daughter of William Beales (1823-2 September 1888), a farmer of Barton Hall, Suffolk, and his wife Sarah James (c.1842-2 June 1907), youngest daughter of John James of Trehiddion, Llansteffan, Carmarthen, who married at St Stephen's Church, Islington on 1 January 1868. In 1881, Harriett was a 12-year-old scholar, living at Wamhill Street, Mildenhall, with her parents, 57-year-old William and 39-year-old Sarah, born at Stepney, London, with Harriett's sibling brother Henry James 1, born at Mildenhall, they had another son Walter Gentlemen, born at Mildenhall in 1869. As Miss Beales of Wamill Hall, she exhibited at the Bury St Edmunds Fine Art Society in 1882, she was a junior or this reference may be an error for a Mrs Beales of Wamill Hall. On the death of her father in 1888, they moved to Verandah House, The Street, Worlington, Mildenhall where they were living in 1891. She married at Kensington, London in 1892 Frank Lankester (1871-1902), a wine and spirit merchant at Stowmarket, Suffolk. Her mother died at Kent House, 28 Clapham Road, Lowestoft, Suffolk in 1907 when Harriett was a widow.
