SPARKE, Edward

1846 - 1924

Edward Sparke was born at Bury St Edmund's, Suffolk on 2 November 1846 and baptised on 13 December 1846, son of John Sparke (8 January 1812-28 September 1888), a grocer, and his wife Amelia née Moyse (28 July 1814-1901) who married at Bury St Edmund's on 13 December 1835. In 1851, Edward was a 4-year-old, living at St Andrew's Street North, Tayfen Road, Bury St Edmund's with his parents, 39-year-old John and 36-year-old Amelia, with siblings Harriett 14, John 12, James 10, Amelia 9, Jane 7 and Henry Martin 1, they had two further daughters Elizabeth born 1853 and Selina in 1855, all born at Bury St Edmund's. Edward married at Debenham, Suffolk on 20 August 1875, Theresa Theobald Corner (1844-1901), manageress of the Suffolk Hote in Bury St Edmund's. In 1881, a wine merchant's clerk, living at the Suffolk Hotel, 35 Butter Market, Bury St Edmund's with his 35[sic] year old wife Theresa, still manageress of the hotel, with their son Henry Edward 4, plus staff and customers. As Mr E. Sparke, he exhibited at the Bury St Edmunds Fine Art Society in 1882. Edward Sparke died at St Edmundsbury, Springfield Road, Gorleston, Norfolk on 22 April 1924.
