NUNN, Alexandra Louise
Louisa Alexandra Nunn, known as Alexandra Louise, was born at Cross Yard, Cornhill, Ipswich on 3 February 1863 and baptised at St Mary-le-Tower Church, Ipswich on 29 May 1863, daughter of Robert Lindley Nunn, professor of music, and his first wife Catherine Jane née Stutter (1827-1884) who married at Bury St Edmund's, Suffolk on 24 June 1852, Alexandra's sister was Mary Cecilia Nunn. Alexandra studied at Ipswich School of Art and was a landscape painter in oil and exhibited at the Ipswich Fine Art Club from The Tower, Westerfield Road, Ipswich in 1883 'A Sketch', in 1884 two 'Sketches' in 1885 an oil 'A Quiet Evening' and a watercolour 'A Sketch in Geresheim' and was elected a member of the Ipswich Fine Art Club 1889-1900 and was a regular exhibitor, showing thirty-six works during her membership including from Westerfield Road in 1889 'Village on the Scheldt', in 1890 two oils 'Walberwick' and 'Needham Lime Pits' and a watercolour 'A Sketch on the Common' and in 1891 four oil paintings 'Cottages at Saint Jacut, Brittany', 'Manor Farm Buildings, Westerfield', 'Night Scene at Brittany' and 'St Malo from Dinard'. Her subjects were mostly local views but also included continental scenes. She also exhibited at the Bury St Edmunds Fine Art Society in 1882 'A Sketch of Dusseldorf'. In 1921 she was Superintendent at The Girls' Friendly Society Hostel, 22 Florence Road, London W5 and as Alexandra Louise Nunn, she died at 45 Longton Grove, Sydenham, Kent on 5 March 1928, aged 65, she was unmarried.
