KAY, Geoffrey
Geoffrey Kay first studied ceramics at Wolverhampton College of Art and gained a Dip.A.D. in 1968. He taught ceramics and 3D design at Lanchester Polytechnic, Corby Technical College and Barnfield College of Further Education in Luton. In 1989 he took a Masters degree in Industrial Archaeology from the University of Birmingham. From 1990 he taught at Suffolk College in Ipswich, and was the Head of Further Education Art & Design and left the College in February 2000 to become a self-employed artist and designer at Stowmarket, Suffolk. His research interests have centred upon 19th century tile manufacturing, which led to two publications 'Charles Lynam– an Architect of Tile Factories' and 'The Peacock of Mysore–an account of the tiled floor of the Wedding Pavilion in the Mysore Palace'. In 2001, Geoffrey Kay was appointed as Research Officer to Anglia Ruskin University, where he contributes to a scheme that offers postgraduate opportunities for Suffolk teachers. He married at Wolverhampton in 1968, Ingeborg Armitage and has exhibited at Bank Arts Centre, Eye, Suffolk.
