WOODS, Gerald
Gerald Thomas W. Woods, was born at Wellington, Shropshire on 10 April 1942, son of Frederick M. Woods and his wife Jessie Letitia Feehelly (12 January 1905-23 November 1986), who married at Woolwich, London in 1928. Gerald studied at Camberwell School of Art and in 1962 and at the age of twenty, Woods was appointed lecturer in printmaking at Ipswich School of Art. A talented artist and draughtsman, making his own lithographs, working on lino and stones. He left Ipswich in 1965 for a teaching post at Camberwell. He exhibited at the Royal Academy from 3 Hardwick House, Chislehurst Road, Richmond in 1968 'Assisi' and from Berwyn, Flat One, 47 Sutton Park Road, Seaford, Sussex in 1987 'Sion'. Gerald lectured in several art colleges and published several books on Art, Design and Photography including 'Art Without Boundaries' and his hand printed editions for the Snake River Press in Sussex were also purchased by the University of Michigan. He married firstly at Fulham, London in 1963, Yvonne Dales and secondly at Lewes, Sussex in 1989, Cecilia Hunkeler. Gerald Thomas W. Woods took early retirement in 1994 due to ill health but continued to work as a painter and photographer until his death at Eastbourne, Sussex on 26 May 2004.
