WASHINGTON-DIXON, Halima
Halima Washington-Dixon was born in Los Angeles, California on 27 July 1978. She gained a B.A in Visual arts and Art History from Occidental College in Los Angeles and Masters Fine Arts in Painting & Drawing from the Academy of Art University in San Francisco. Halima became a professional artist in 2006 and in 2007, relocated to Atlanta, Georgia, where she started teaching adults at various art centres. In 2011 she came to England and now works from her home near Sudbury in Suffolk. Halima occasionally works 'en plein air' in the countryside near her home with the vibrancy and thickness of her paint being a reflection of her feelings toward the subject and a reflection of her feelings towards the paint itself. By piling on the paint and moving it around in different directions, she brings the subject to life. Most of Halima's paintings are completed in a single sitting so that they remain fresh and immediate. Being influenced by Post-Impressionist painters, her work has an emphasis on light, colour and texture and her paintings positively illuminate a room and her dexterous use of colour and texture, provide a wondrous harmony between light and subject matter. Her work is currently represented by several galleries in the UK including the Hunter Gallery, Bury St Edmund's; John Noott Galleries in the Cotswolds and Morningside Gallery, Edinburgh.
